Certified Aides (PCA/HHA)
Our certified aides are highly trained Personal Care Aides (PCA) and Home Health Aides (HHA) that can provide a wide range of “hands-on” personal care and many other important tasks to ensure an individual remains safe and healthy in their home.
All of the certified aides at ElderChoice…
- Have successfully completed the NYS approved 40 hr PCA training program or 80 hr HHA training program
- Are supervised by an ElderChoice Registered Nurse to ensure the highest quality of care
- Receive ongoing training, both in the field and
- in a structured setting, to address specific patient needs, additional core competencies and trends in home care
- Meet all NYS DOH health requirements
- Undergo a thorough criminal history background check

Personal Care Aides
Personal Care Aides provide “hands on” personal care needs and can also provide oversight and supervision due to cognitive deficits. They assist or perform task such as:
- Assist patients with self- medication administration by providing verbal prompts and cues
- Support and assist patients with necessary transferring and walking assistance
- Assist patients with dressing, bathing, eating etc.
- Encourage and support patients with physical therapy exercises
- Meal preparation, as outlined by patient, doctor’s order and scope of practice
- Assist patients with their shopping and other community outings and/or errands
- Perform necessary light housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe environment
- Provide emotional support and companionship
- Provide oversight and supervision for ongoing patient safety and well being
- Immediately report any patient condition change or concerns to the agency Registered Nurse

Home Health Aides
HHAs can provide a higher level of care than PCAs including all of the tasks listed above and also:
- Administer oral medications to a self-directing patient
- Maintenance and care to a stable wound
- Obtain weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration
- Perform finger stick glucose blood testing
- and more!
